Spinning Jenny
The Spinning Jenny was an early spinning machine with a significant impact on the Industrial Revolution. Invented by James Hargreaves in 1764, this device revolutionized the textile industry by allowing a worker to operate several spindles simultaneously, thus increasing productivity.

- James Hargreaves is credited with the invention of the Spinning Jenny, although there are claims that he might have been influenced by earlier designs or ideas.
- The first model of the Spinning Jenny allowed for eight spindles, but later versions were developed to accommodate up to 120 spindles.

Mechanism
The Spinning Jenny worked by having a series of spindles arranged in a line. The operator would turn a wheel which moved all the spindles at once, allowing for multiple threads to be spun at the same time:
- The machine had a frame with spindles mounted on it.
- A single wheel would turn all the spindles through a series of gears or belts.
- The rovings (unspun fibers) were drawn out and twisted into yarn by the spinning wheel.
- The operator would move along the machine, guiding the rovings onto the spindles.

- The Spinning Jenny significantly reduced the amount of labor needed to produce yarn, making it much more efficient than the traditional spinning wheel.
- It helped to kickstart the mechanization of the textile industry, leading to further inventions like the Water Frame and Spinning Mule.
